If you have fallen victim to any of John Grogan's polygraph or investigative related fraud, we understand and we want to help as much as we can. A few of the schemes that have so far been uncovered are:
1. NO REFUNDS - John touts and sells the '45lb academy in the box' as though its better than any of the real polygraph schools. Then when the victim discovers there is no way to become a legitimate examiner, no way to get a real job, they ask for a refund, but Grogan refuses to give any.
2. BULLYING & HARASSMENT - In Southern California, Grogan sells to and sets up unsuspecting people, usually private investigators, who want to add polygraph to their services or want a full time career in polygraph. He promises them the world, then when they have bought into it, purchase his training and try to set up shop, he turns on them and doesn't allow them to advertise anywhere in the Southern California area that he considers to be his own personal kingdom. Their only option is to wait on 'leads' from John himself for which they have to pay him a $95 fee out of the testing fee as a PEOA.US member. Any attempt at marketing in what he considers his area is met with open and aggressive marketing tactics to try and squash the new examiner out of business. Examples of known tactics:
a. harass that person with threatening phone calls and name calling.
b. have others call a victim's 1-800 phone number to run up the bill
c. have his friends call victims and set up bogus tests to have the new examiner waste their time traveling to a test that doesn't exist.
d. find out information on how that person is going to market and then beat them to the punch and pre-register the domain that person said they were going to purchase for their business.
e. set up websites with a descriptive city/county domain name that obviously covers the exact same area that person has expressed they will be working in.
3. MISREPRESENTATION/LYING - John makes many claims that simply aren't true. In fact, he will pretty much say whatever it takes to get your money. He has been caught in his lies, even on live radio and television. Some of his outright misrepresentations and lies:
1. That the American Polygraph Association is just a small group of examiners based out of tennessee where they have just one person working in an office. (Truth - The APA is the largest Polygraph Association in the World having over 2,500 members. How many members have we ever been able to locate in Grogan's Polygraph Examiners of America? No more than 15 and yet he touts it to be "The Worlds Largest Polygraph Examiner Network". That is a blatant lie with its only purpose to try and deceive the public and examiners into giving him business and joining his pseudo-organization.
2. Building people up and stroking egos with lies to try and gain favor. Grogan has given 'certificates' to people for completing training they never completed. I personally received a "PEOA.US" certificate for completing training on all the computerized polygraph instrumentation for a class I never attended.
Several PEOA victims have shared that Grogan tells them that if they join PEOA, he will give them all the referrals in that area because "I like you". These victims report having huge expectations of business and then receiving very little or nothing at all but empty promises.
3. On live radio, John Grogan blatantly lied when a caller confronted him on whether or not he had really had his PI license taken from him by the state of California. Grogan said that was not true and that he had 'retired' from Private Investigations. The proof that is a lie you can download right from this site.
4. Grogan has over 40 state 'alliance' networks that make claims such as "Florida's largest lie detection network". But I challenge anyone to find any members listed on that site at all. You won't, because all roads lead to Grogan, not to his 'network'. It is possible he has a few naive examiners who will take referrals from him, but I challenge Grogan right here to give a list of names in Florida to prove he has the largest network. He can't. It is a lie.
4. FALSIFYING POLYGRAPH RESULTS - We have eyewitness accounts of Grogan conducting polygraph exams on Defense Attorney clients and the client failing the exam, but Grogan telling the Attorney that his client passed. When asked by a witness why he lied to the Attorney about the results, Grogan is quoted as saying...
“It’s all about the client. These are attorneys and you want their business don’t you? If you fail their client, you will never hear from them again.”
This is just scratching the surface, but I hope it gives you an idea to the depth of fraud Grogan is willing to engage in.

John Grogan Victim Stories
VICTIMS: Kory & Maria Turk
Kory & Maria paid Grogan and attended his "Polygraph Academy" which consisted of three meetings at a Chinese Restaurant in Southern California. As soon as they attempted to start a business on their own and advertised in the same area as Grogan, he called the Turk's and said the following:
“What the f__k are you doing on this website? I advertise there. Lisa works for me and she doesn’t even advertise there. If you don’t change your cities I will shut you down, I will put you out of business and you’ll never work as a polygraph examiner in California again. I cannot tell you what to do, but I have put people out of business before.”
What followed was exactly what Grogan threatened.

VICTIM: Kelly Duhs - Private Investigator
Kelly met with Grogan to purchase some Private Investigator materials, however, during the meeting John conned her into believing that if she bought his 'academy in a box' and trained with him, she would be on her way to an extremely lucrative career as a polygraph examiner. Not yet knowing who Grogan really is, she bought into it and the nightmare began. It took Kelly a year to get out from under Grogan's thumb and publish her story for fear of his retaliation.

VICTIM: David Gonda - Private Investigator
Mr. Gonda's story was concise enough to print in full here:
What I do know to be the truth is the following. A while back, my CEO contacted with Grogan to administered 10 or 11 test for a client of mine in 1000 Oaks. My Investigator was present while the tests were conducted. During the testing all subjects were ruled out and had no deceptive issues.
As I got into his service I found out that the tests were conducted, not by
Grogan, but by a female friend of his that I believe I was told was a process
server. I was then informed by my investigator that Grogan allowed my
investigator to conduct a polygraph test(someone who had not one ounce of polygraph training) When asked, Grogan told me "What
difference does it make."
I asked Grogan to send me reports of the polygraph test that he billed me
for. He stated he does not provide written reports. He e-mailed me an
invoice that I did not pay and have not paid to date. He called my client
and complained to her that I had not paid him. I received a number of
threatening phone calls from Grogan for a while.
It was necessary to conduct each polygraph test again with my regular polygraph
examiner., which resulted in very different results from Grogan's tests.
I did nothing more about this incident since that time. Although I did not
know Grogan at the time, I have heard so many horror stories since. I have
not pulled my files to date, but all the above facts are a matter of record
with this agency.

VICTIM: Brad Marcozzi - Private Investigator
Mr. Marcozzi purchased John Grogan's '40lb Academy in a Box' for $885, but never received the product.
What is most interesting are the lies that John tells people when trying to sell one of his products. The same lies tend to repeat themselves from the mouths of different victims who didn't even know each other prior to their victimization.
Mr. Marcozzi has actually put his complete story online on his own website. It is a very good true story and shows some of the finer details of how Grogan attempts to 'dazzle' people into his world.

VICTIM: Libby Christ - Polygraph Examiner
Libby found and joined Grogan's PEOA.US in hopes of increasing her polygraph business. She received some referrals for about a year and then agreed to meet with Grogan to see about ways to increase her polygraph business.
What came out of the meeting was enough for Libby to realize she should probably separate herself from his business practices.

- Grogan admits to falsifying results for TV shows
- Grogan admits to having access to the LAPD hiring manual
- Grogan encourages Libby to lie about the number of tests she has conducted if she applies for LAPD.
- Grogan encourages Libby to photocopy and give to him copyrighted material from her Polygraph School
- Grogan 'flirts' with Libby and makes inappropriate comments and advances telling her that if she likes him, he will file for divorce.

VICTIM: Roger Parsons - Disabled Career Police Officer
Roger bought the Academy in a Box from Grogan. After weeks and months of persistence, he eventually received two of the four promised manuals. No matter how hard he tried, Grogan never sent the last two and when a refund was requested, none was given.
The worst part about this story is that Roger was a career police officer who became a paraplegic after a motorcycle accident. Roger was trying to get back on his feet and pursue polygraph as a possible criminal justice related career that he could perform with his handicap.
